At the other end of the scale are premium lodges. Our Atlas Jasmine Lodge is listed at £149,995. With two bedrooms, 14ft width and 43ft length, it offers considerably more space than a typical starter caravan, alongside features such as integrated appliances, a walk-in wardrobe, additional insulation, Velux windows and a full wrap-around decking.
The difference in price is significant, but so is the level of accommodation. Rather than simply asking whether a lodge is “worth more”, you should consider whether you will genuinely use the additional space and features.
Space: caravan practicality versus lodge living
The biggest physical difference between a standard static caravan and a larger lodge is often the amount of living space available.
Many static caravans are designed to make clever use of a relatively compact space. The Willerby Peppy2, for example, measures 12ft by 35ft and has three bedrooms with sleeping accommodation for up to eight people. Its open-plan layout, central heating, double glazing and decking make it a practical choice for family breaks without requiring a huge space.
For buyers who want more room to spread out, a lodge can feel closer to a conventional home.
Our Swift Vendee Lodge measures 13ft by 42ft and has two bedrooms, six berths and an emphasis on storage and spacious living. Meanwhile, the Atlas Jasmine Lodge stretches to 14ft by 43ft.
That extra width and length can make a noticeable difference. There may be more room for larger sofas, dining furniture, storage and entertaining, while bedrooms and bathrooms can feel less compact.
For families who expect to spend longer periods at their holiday home, or for owners who regularly invite friends and relatives, the extra space of a lodge could be particularly appealing.
What kind of lifestyle do you want?
Your ideal holiday home should fit the way you actually spend your time away.
If your priority is getting outdoors, exploring the local area and having somewhere comfortable to return to at the end of the day, an entry-level caravan may be all you need. You could put more of your budget towards enjoying the park and surrounding area rather than paying for features you may rarely use.
A static caravan can also be a sensible option for families.
A luxury lodge tends to appeal to buyers who see the holiday home itself as a major part of the experience.
Don’t assume bigger always means better
It is easy to be drawn towards the biggest and most luxurious model on a sales page, but bigger is not automatically the right choice.
Think about how many people will normally use the holiday home. A couple who mainly want somewhere peaceful for short breaks may prefer a well-equipped two-bedroom caravan rather than paying a substantial premium for a large lodge.
Likewise, a family with children, visiting grandparents or friends may quickly appreciate having additional bedrooms, larger communal areas and more storage.
It is also worth considering how you prefer to spend your time. If you love cooking, entertaining and relaxing indoors, premium kitchen and living features could be valuable. If most of your holiday is spent on the beach, exploring or enjoying outdoor activities, you may get better value from a simpler model.
